About the Elk
The American elk is the West's great deer. A mature bull can stand five feet at the shoulder and carry sweeping antlers with six or more points per side. In the fall rut, the bulls bugle, a high, wild call that carries for miles.
Elk are herd animals with sharp noses and long memories. A big bull is cautious and rarely stands in the open for long.

On the ranch, elk move between timber and open grass. Fall brings the rut and the best chance to locate a bull by his bugle. Your guide will help you judge mass, beam length and tine length before you take the shot.
