About the Greater Kudu
Hunters call the greater kudu the "grey ghost" because a 500-pound bull can disappear into brush he barely fits behind. Mature bulls grow long, open spiral horns that can measure past 50 inches, the iconic spiral-horn trophy.
Kudu have huge ears, thin white stripes on a grey body, and a fringe of hair down the throat. Cows have no horns, so the bulls are easy to tell apart, but finding a mature one is hard.

Hunting Greater Kudu at Black Eagle Ranch
Kudu stay close to cover, and the live oak and cedar on the ranch suit them. Hunting them takes patience: glassing at first and last light, then a slow stalk with the wind in your face.
A mature bull shows two and a half full turns with ivory-colored tips. Your guide will help you count turns before you take the shot.
