About the Nilgai
The nilgai, or "blue bull," is the largest antelope in Asia. Bulls turn a steel blue-grey and carry short, sharp horns, a white throat patch, and a tuft of beard. They were brought to South Texas in the 1920s and 1930s.
Nilgai have thick hides and heavy shoulders and are famously hard to bring down. They are also some of the best wild meat in Texas.
